The Many Benefits of the Internet

When it comes to the internet, there’s a lot to be thankful for. Sadly, we don’t always appreciate the sum total of human knowledge at our fingertips. C’est la via, I guess. While many of us simply use the internet to talk to friends and watch cat videos not that there’s anything wrong with that, the internet, as a tool of mankind, has so much more going for it. The internet, as revolutionary as it was on its own, is the gift that keeps on giving. The internet has been the impetus for, and enabler of, many further technological revolutions. Here are just a few ways that the world wide web has changed the world for the better.

First and foremost, the internet has revolutionized communication. We thought the cell phone was revolutionary? The internet can do all that a cell phone can do and much more, including being inside a cell phone. Indeed, the internet is an unparalleled communications network. You can voice call or instant message someone, much like with a phone. You can engage in correspondence with email. You can even have massive discussions with groups a message at a time on the forum of your choosing. The global community shrinks more and more with each advancement. We can even video chat like some old sci fi like Star Trek. But, now that tech wizardry is real.

Another facet of human existence that has been forever changed by the internet is shopping. Online shopping has all but outmoded in the store shopping by this point. Almost everything you need is available online. It can be ordered in just a few minutes and arrive in the mail in mere days, and all of this can be accomplished without ever speaking to a human being in most cases. Anything you can think of exists on the internet, such as Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Pet Smart, and many, many more. The only thing we haven’t worked out yet is groceries, and dry goods are already available, so it’s only a matter of time.

Lastly, the internet has revolutionized entertainment. Thanks to the internet, on demand viewing via streaming services like Netflix are now possible, for one thing, but the internet has also spawned entirely new forms of entertainment. From online gaming to the advent of YouTube and Twitch, the internet has a bevy of entertainment that simply wasn’t possible before.
